Final 2010 Summer Series event, Wendover, Tuesday 27th July
On to the last event of this summer series. This has been highly successful with in excess of 30 competitors at each and every event.
Fittingly we go into the last event at Wendover with places on all courses to be decided.
Don’t be late! Start is 7.30 sharp and all courses will set off at the same time.
On A it's neck and neck between Jon Marsden and Roger Thetford with 3 wins each, 196 points. This is the decider. On B Mike Edwards has won it but there's a real wing-ding for second place with Roger Baker, John Thompson and Norman Liley all equal on 188pts. On C it's between Lisa Jennings and Rob Mackrell.
Course Details
A: Long 4.3km, 170m climb with 6 controls. TD4
B: Medium 3.1km 100m climb and 7 controls. TD4
C: Short 2.1km 70m climb and 4 controls (moderate technical difficulty, TD3).
The controls are based on the permanent course. Please note this was revamped recently such that 12 controls out of the 20 have been replaced. Over half of the controls on each of the courses use new control sites, so knowledge based on previous events over the last 2 years here wont help you much!
Parking
The final event is a head to head starting at 7.30 sharp as per normal. Location is Wendover Woods at SP 890090. Once you reach the café in the middle of the woods take a right past the main car park on your left, and park on the top of Boddington Hill - this will be marked by control flags. We have 3 courses on offer (no loops, or reverse courses, just a straight forward head to head race):
Parking Charges
Payable at the entrance or at the main car park, there are no machines near the start.
Terrain notes.
There has been a lot of forestry work on the eastern section of your courses, which has left some white areas with brashings, not too bad, but worth bearing in mind.
Following the debacle last year and very polite enquiry and reminder from one of our regulars, we have decided to change the pub to the "shoulder of Mutton" SP 866077 which is easily found at the entrance to Wendover station. This would be about 2 miles from the exit from Wendover woods but should be closer to roues home for nearly all. With a large car park, so if the front looks busy there is a large section which lies behind it, entrance is the same. A large Garden, fingers crossed and a good menu (examples below) Food until 10pm.
soup £2.99
Chicago chicken £7.99
Fish and chips £6.99
Scampi £7.20
8oz sirlion £10.99.
